We took our health for granted. It has taken a world in the
grip of COVID-19 to change our perspective.
Life is priceless. Today, Mahatma Gandhi's words ring doubly
true: "Health is the real wealth, not pieces of gold or
silver."
15% of us may not return to our normal lives due to the
impact of the pandemic on our long-term mental health.
The lockdowns, self-isolation and persistent uncertainty of
the pandemic will leave a lasting legacy of psychological
damage across the globe.
How might we address this unique set of challenges and
pressures? Of the many weapons in our arsenal, the most
potent are empathy and solidarity.
We also require resilience and agility to power our
recovery; such flexible traits provide the means to emerge
stronger and move forward.
What I wish for my loved ones, and for all of humanity in
2021, is lasting physical and psychological health, and the
ability to overcome our economic woes.
We perhaps overlook the many precious and beautiful things
that surround us; it simply requires an open heart and a
receptive soul to discover in them pure, endless joy.
